Open Doors 2023
In March 2023, we supported St Modwen at Kingsgrove who took part in another hugely successful Open Doors event,. Local students were invited ‘behind the hoardings’ to discover more about the world of construction and the vast array of careers in the industry.

St Modwen Homes, Bellway, ACS Construction, Cala Homes, Taylor Wimpey, Care UK and Lawrence Baker came together to put on 6 tours for around 70 students from King Alfred’s Academy, UTC Oxfordshire and Abingdon & Witney College. The students toured Kingsgrove and were able to find out more about the careers available and learn more about this industry.

Thank you for the experience - The impact it has had on students is amazing as they can now put the college work into a real life experience

Work Experience
We support our clients, developers, contractors, sub contractors all the way through their supply change by sharing information shared with us from Schools and Colleges. We liaise between the schools and colleges and all stakeholders within the supply chain to ensure that opportunities to make work experience placements a reality are communicated effectively between all parties
I had a lovely opportunity last week to take two students from Fitzwaryn for their work experience with Lee Haslam from ACS. Lee was fantastic and made the whole week a really meaningful experience for the Students. They were able to help complete different tasks including site checks, Paperwork, fire extinguisher checks and health and safety checks.
Thank you so much for helping to facilitate this experience for our students and giving them an Insight into the world of work.

Community and Charity
Some of our clients already have affiliations or offer regular support to local and national charities that support their internal business ambitions.
However on a local level we regularly field requests from charities and initiatives. looking for intermittent support or sponsorship. JHI process and forward these opportunities
to our clients for them to consider
Examples of this type of support include;
St Modwen who donated 40 hi-vis vests to the local Scout’s Association.
36 Scouts from across Oxfordshire have been selected to attend the World Scout Jamboree 2023 in South Korea and 4 of them were from the Wantage and Grove area. The Scouts are taking part in a number of fundraising events over an 18 month period and they required hi-vis jackets to be able to complete this safely.
Taylor Wimpey has also completed a significant amount of work at Helen & Douglas Children's Hospice.
They have also contributed to:
Sands (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity) and
Goring & Streatley Golf Club (Alzheimer's Association)
Open Doors 2021
We were so pleased to be involved, working with our client St. Modwen Homes, on Open Doors in 2021 after the 2020 event was inevitably cancelled. 'Get Into Construction' was the message and it was all about encouraging people to see behind the hoarding and to showcase the diverse and exciting careers available in the construction industry.
St. Modwen Properties partnered with Jen Healy Innovations in 2020, 2021 and 2023 for the annual Build UK Open Doors event which gives students, colleges and the wider public assess to see behind the hoardings and explore more about the Construction Industry. Throughout the process Jen and her team deliver quality CSR contacts, are able to shift and adapt to constantly changing situations and all done with the perfect mix of professionalism and humour. She took the strain on this nationwide event for myself, and as such the tours we delivered were insightful and impactful to the next generation of Construction Professionals. Thanks Jen and all your team.

International Women's Day
A great opportunity to work with St Modwen's Kingsgove, Wantage team, who invited a group of young engineering students from UTC Oxfordshire to see all aspects of the development and the variety of careers involved.
Joined by representatives from South Oxforshire and Vale of White Horse District Council, St Modwen and OxLEP, the students gained a better understanding of the number of potential roles and opportunities available within the construction industry.
Attracting the next Generation of Construction Professionals
Here's my interview with developer St Modwen on the skills shortage in the construction industry and the best way of attracting the next generation into an industry that is looking to diversify and encourage new talent:
